FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHY GO ELECTRIC?

Electric bikes are taking the world by storm as a convenient method of travel making use of a hybrid power source in the form of human pedalling and electric motor propulsion.

There are many kinds of e-bikes available but they generally fall into two broad categories: bikes that assist the rider's pedal-power and bikes that add a throttle, allowing for a full electric mode.

WHY CONVERT?

Well the short answer is simple… it’s cheaper. Also you have the freedom of customization.

You can walk into your local bike shop and pick up a budget, very basic ready built E-Bike for well in advance of one thousand pounds or there’s the option of purchasing a conversion kit and a battery to build your own for a significant saving. If you have an old bike in the shed, why not convert that? We have seen many different styles of bike converted in some very interesting ways.

For riders who can’t resist the urge for speed, the higher wattage motors are available and a ridiculous amount of fun when flying down a dirt track! A nice sturdy mountain bike combined with the G-VOLT 1500W conversion kit is easily capable of hitting 40mph so you can create your own serious piece of kit.

WHAT MAINTENANCE IS REQUIRED?

It’s important to keep your bike well maintained to ensure rider safety and to expand the life cycle of the kit.

• Store inside (highly recommended) – keeping your bike stored outside is not the ideal solution. Firstly, it's not as well protected from the elements, which will affect its long term reliability and maintenance. Secondly, dew and moisture will eventually get into electrical components. Leaving your bike outside also increases the chances of it being stolen.

• Keep your spokes tight – Regularly check for loose spokes, loose spokes aren't pulling their weight and will cause the wheel to buckle quickly.

• General bike maintenance – Regularly service the bike this kit is fitted to, conduct brake checks, moving parts checks, keep well lubricated and ensure the general health of the bike is at a good standard

DO I NEED A TORQUE ARM?

Torque arms are designed to grip the axel to the frame and add rigidity, this protects against any movement generated by the added torque. Torque arms are typically used on motors above 1000W, however some bikes have small dropout sections for the axel bolt to grip to, in which case they are recommended for 1000W motors. DO I NEED TO INSTALL THE PEDAL ASSIST SYSTEM (PDA)

NO – The kit works with pedal assist or throttle only. Adjust setting P10 to your preference.

DO I NEED TO INSTALL THE BREAK LEVERS

NO - The brake levers that come with the kit are designed to cut the power from the motor when used, but they are not compatible with hydraulic brakes and do not need to be installed.

MY PAS DOES NOT FIT?

All bikes are slightly different around the crank and bottom bracket area so if the PAS sensor ring is too big for the bottom bracket cup it can be attached to the frame using an adhesive or cable ties. The magnet ring can be opened wider to fit bigger pedal spindles.
